Life happens.

As I sit here, staring out through shattered glass of old memories,
I wonder about the reason for being.
Life happens, they say.
Something too simple in its complicity,
Can't be explained in too many words.
Life happens.

Those long ago lessons,
Some that went unnoticed;
While you paddled your life through the intricate,
muddled rivers of your youth
Did you then as you do now,
Understand the reason for being?

The naivety of youth,
Ignorant of consequences,
Yet, beholden to circumstances.
I wonder if I told you;
When you too sit staring out
through the shattered glass of your now memories,
Sometimes in a near distant future,
If you would also hear,
the same:
Life happens.
